URGENT APPEAL: Please donate to rebuild the house of Jonathan and Nanay Noning dela Cruz

The typhoon season is here and 81-year-old Nanay Noning and her son Jonathan who has a physical disability, are facing the very real threat of homelessness. Their house in Brgy Silagon, Ajuy is made of light materials and was really intended to be a temporary shelter. But they didn’t have the resources to make it permanent. It is now in a terrible state and on the verge of fully collapsing.

Jonathan, the breadwinner of the family, lost his arm in an accident many years ago. He is only able to do some manual work and barely scrapes enough for their needs, and Nanay Noning is too old to do much. They need our help to rebuild their home.

Weathering the Storm: September 29-October 1, 2011 Dumaguete Climate Change Presentations

(Note: In trying to reconstruct my Climate Presentations list, Arlene Grino of MISSION Dumaguete sent me her report of the Climate Change Presentation Series I did in Dumaguete City. This originally appeared on the MISSION website on October 6, 2011.)

Last Thursday, at exactly 6:36 AM, our dynamic speaker Shiela ‘GORE’ Castillo texted me that she was boarding her Cebu Pacific flight. She was finally en route to Dumaguete after missing the previous flight having been stranded at Calapan Port due to typhoon Pedring. Having moved the schedules twice, I was happiest to see her emerge from the airport’s arrival area. Shiela had plenty of time to prepare and freshen up for the first engagement: Silliman University, 10 o’clock AM, Assembly Hall.
