Navigating Social Justice: Why Strategic Foresight is Important

It’s a necessary instrument for impactful advocacy that happens through strategic foresight. Foresight is the process of creating visions of the future and developing strategies that could help to achieve those future visions.

From climate crisis to climate justice

On Monday, I was a panelist at the United Edge online learning event on climate justice. This is my second time to be invited by United Edge. In November last year, I spoke on the climate breakdown and had a really interesting exchange with participants, many of whom were development workers who were working on justice. The Monday event was sort of a sequel for that one, as it pursues the idea of climate justice. The online learning session was attended by 110 participants from many countries. It was a pleasure seeing again my friends Matt Kletzing and Daniel Bevan who founded United Edge and sharing the screen with Doni Marmer and Shikar Agarwal as fellow panelists with Will Midwinter as host, and Grace Tan-Johannes and Sagar Kafle as moderators.

Can veganism help propel governments forward?

I participated in the Philippine Society of Public Administrators (PSPA) International Virtual Conference where I wore two hats, as a presenter on veganism, and as a facilitator in the foresight game Dreams and Disruptions, which our team at the Center for Engaged Foresight developed.

Asian regeneration through foresight 1

The Asia Pacific Futures Network Virtual Conference 2020 wrapped up yesterday. Our team at PhilFutures organized the conference this year. Initially envisioned as a two, eight-hour days conference, it grew and grew until we had three days from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm, one collaboration platform on Miro which we called the APFN2020 Hiraya Cosmos, a networking platform on Gather.Town, which we called Hiraya Futures Plaza, and a crowdsourcer in Futurescaper, which we are continuing beyond the conference.

My career journey has been a long and winding path, from the academe to environment, social development, humanitarian work, two and a half years working abroad, and currently, futures.
